  • Ambient TDS measurement on bridgemenite crystal.

  • Dr. Jin Zhang, Dr. Dongzhou Zhang, Dr. Ruqing Xu and Dr. Przemek Dera finished the TDS measurement at high-pressure conditions with regular Mar CCD detector at sector 34.


  • Dr. Jin Zhang received the first version of universal membrane cap, membranes are waiting to be ordered.


  • Dr. Jin Zhang developed a primitive python code for universal TDS fitting under single-phonon scattering assumption. Results are in good agreement with the original inversion results.


  • Dr. Jin Zhang worked with Dr. Ruqing Xu developed the first version of python code for Si single crystal TDS fitting. Results are in good agreement with previous measurements.


  • Dr. Jin Zhang, Dr. Dongzhou Zhang, Dr. Ruqing Xu and Dr. Przemek Dera performed the first high-pressure TDS measurement on Si single crystals at 13BMC in GSECARS with the help from beam line scientists Dr. Peter Eng and Dr. Joanne Stubbs, using the flight path + Pilatus detector setup. Dr. Jin Zhang and Dr. Dongzhou Zhang worked out the method and code for calibrating the detector pixel - crystal hkl relation.


  • Dr. Jin Zhang received the first set of modified W-Al2O3 heaters.


  • Dr. Jin Zhang performed primitive test on W-Al2O3 heaters for diamond anvil cell resistive heating, came up with modified designs for heaters.


  • Dr. Jin Zhang finished the design of the first version universal membrane cap, which is a single-membrane DAC cap ideal for precise remote pressure control during compressional process. It fits most DACs people used in high-pressure community without losing angular opening, including Princeton type and Japanese piston cylinder DAC, modified 3-pin and 4-pin Merrill-Bassett-type DACs, BX90 DAC, etc.


  • Initial collaboration with Dr. Ruqing Xu on TDS measurement at high-pressure conditions. Tests were made under ambient conditions on thin (~15 microns) samples comparable to DAC samples.

  • FIrst meeting in 2016 with COMPTECH technical advisory board (TAB) in 2015. Dr. Quentin Williams, Dr. Lars Ehm, Dr. Yanbin Wang, COMPRES president Carl Agee and COMPRES facilities committee chair Dr. Mark Rivers joined the meeting with Dr. Przemek Dera and Dr. Jin Zhang.


  • AGU fall meeting was hold from December 14-18. Dr. Jin Zhang was invited to give a talk about thermal diffuse scattering on Monday morning.


  • Dr. Jin Zhang was invited to give a research talk at University of New Mexico from Nov. 16-17.


  • Dr. Jin Zhang and Dr. Przemek Dera attended the IEDA alliance kickoff workshop for high-pressure mineral physics data base.


  • The Material Science & Technology meeting was held from October 4 to 8. Dr. Jin Zhang presented her study on orthorenstatite and advertised the PX2 beamline on Wednesday.


  • Third meeting with COMPTECH technical advisory board (TAB) in 2015. Dr. Quentin Williams, Dr. Guoyin Shen, Dr. Lars Ehm, Dr. Yanbin Wang and COMPRES facilities committee chair Dr. Mark Rivers joined the meeting with Dr. Przemek Dera and Dr. Jin Zhang. Possible date for the next TAB meeting will be in January 2016.


  • COMPRES president-elected Carl Agee, out-going president Jay Bass and Executive Committee Chair Abby Kavner visit high-pressure facilities in APS.


  • COMPRES annual meeting 2015 was hold from July 6 - July 9 at Colorado Springs, Dr. Jin Zhang present the recent progress on COMPPTECH activities in the conference.


  • Second meeting with COMPTECH technical advisory board (TAB) in 2015. Dr. Quentin Williams, Dr. Guoyin Shen, Dr. Lars Ehm, Dr. Robert Downs and COMPRES facilities committee chair Dr. Andrew Campbell joined the meeting with Dr. Przemek Dera and Dr. Jin Zhang. Possible date for the next TAB meeting will be in September.


  • Initial collaboration with Dr. Peter Eng and Dr. Joanne Stubbs on TDS measurement using the flight path setup for surface scattering experiments.


  • First meeting with COMPTECH technical advisory board (TAB) in 2015. Dr. Quentin Williams, Dr. Yanbin Wang, Dr. Guoyin Shen, Dr. Lars Ehm, Dr. Robert Downs and COMPRES president Dr. Jay Bass joined the meeting with Dr. Przemek Dera and Dr. Jin Zhang. The meeting brought in lots of insightful suggestions and comments, ensured the COMPTECH project moving toward the correct direction.


  • The AGU fall meeting in San Francisco was held from December 15 to 19. Dr. Jin Zhang presented her laser heating sound velocity measurements on olivine on Monday.


  • Initial collaboration with Dr. Ruqing Xu on TDS measurement at high-pressure conditions. Tests were made under ambient conditions on thin samples comparable to DAC samples.


  • Dr. Jin Zhang joined the COMPTECH project as the new COMPTECH officer at APS.


  • Dr. Bin Chen left his position as COMPTECH officer and became an assistant professor at HIGP (Hawai'i Institute of Geophysics and Planetology).


  • The AGU fall meeting in San Francisco was held from December 9 to 14. Dr. Bin Chen presented his work on "Sound velocities of Fe7C3" at 9 am on Monday.


  • Drs. Przemyslaw Dera and Bin Chen attended the EarthCube workshop on November 12-14, 2013 in Alexadria, VA. The 2.5-day workshop addressed the current state and future directions of cyberinfrastructure development in support of rock deformation and high pressure mineral physics research via the COMPRES and the DEFORM communitiies. The central goals of the workshop were to facilitate scientific discovery via cyberinfrastructure development and to identify EarthCube activities that promote research in high-pressure mineral physics and rock deformation.


  • 2013 COMPRES annual meeting was held in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, June 17-20, 2013. Dr. Bin Chen gave a presentation on "COMPRES Technology Center".


  • Ruby pressure scale and Diamond Anvil pressure calculator have been added to the tools section of the website. These two tools are written and maintained by Bin Chen (binchen@hawaii.edu).
